Litter Pick Saturday 1 April

added May 30, 2017

On Saturday 1st April, Croft Good Neighbours organised a litter pick for the village.   Our  Secretary, Deb, provided us with the gloves which were  kindly donated by her employers, Cobley Transport, bags from Blaby District Council and super litter picking sticks, which she  donated herself - thank you Deb!

Fourteen villagers set off from Broughton Road, on what began as a rather drizzly morning. One group litter picked the Park bridle path, Pochin Street – front and back, the Bus stop, Winston Avenue and the Pavilion car park. The second group ventured along Broughton Road, Salisbury Avenue and down Arbor Road to meet up with the other group at the car park. From there we all proceeded down the jitty to the river bridge and into the old part of the village, for some this was the first time in this area of our lovely village!

The weather improved and some of the volunteers were treated to a tour of the old Chapel by the owners, who are doing it up. They have done an amazing job.

We had an enjoyable time out in the fresh air, with friendly company and doing something most of us would not do on our own!!

Besides the usual crisp packets, soggy bits of paper, cigarette butts and sweet wrappers, Janet found part of a whirly clothes line in a hedge and half a coat hanger.  Deb found two jackets, a rugby shirt and a used condom!!  A huge wine glass, fully intact and duly recycled, was found by Jean and Brian. We all found lots of drinks cans and bottles.

Some of the volunteers rounded off the morning by going to St Michael and All Angels church for lunch. Lunches are held every first Saturday of the month, during the summer, from 12 noon. They are very good value and the desserts and cakes on offer were all homemade… mmmm delicious!

We enjoyed our ‘Litter Picking’ and Croft Good Neighbours send our thanks to all those who spent the morning helping us tidy up our village.  We collected 25 bags of litter. A special thank you to the management of The Heathcote Arms and the villagers along Huncote Road, Winston Avenue and Salisbury Avenue who kindly let us put some of the bags of litter in their bins, much appreciated.

We hope you’ve noticed a difference as you walk/drive through the village but this is a never ending task, we have already seen litter in some of the areas we picked!!

We are hoping to have another litter pick later in the year so look out for the poster – or send us your email (to contact@croftgoodneighbours.com and we will let you have the details nearer the time.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Croft Good Neighbours or you think our volunteers could help you with a task then please contact us on  07590 246 386  or by email contact@croftgoodneighbours.com
